UKIAH, Mendocino County (AP) — The Coast Guard has pulled a body from the waters off the Mendocino County coast that matches the description of a kayaker who was reported missing.
Coast Guard spokesman Erik Swanson says rescuers found what they believe is 56-year-old Donnie Foster’s body in Mendocino Bay around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday. The body has been turned over to the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office, which is working to confirm the identity.
Foster was reported missing a day earlier after authorities say he took his seven-foot whitewater kayak out in the area of Big River and Mendocino Bay around 3 p.m.
The Mountain View resident was apparently visiting Mendocino with his wife for the Thanksgiving holiday.
Search efforts included Coast Guard boats, helicopters and a fixed-wing aircraft.
